TRACK TO THE FUTURE Auction!

This year's annual fundraising auction/party is rapidly approaching. We have some fabulous items up for bid once again - and a delicious meal planned. Check out the catalog so far. We'll be convening at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture on Saturday, March 26th. Cost is only $25 per person and that includes your meal, drinks, and entertainment. An RSVP is required so that we can plan enough meals. Don't miss this opportunity to find some great deals, hang out with fellow track supporters, and raise money for another terrific season at the velodrome! You can RSVP on-line here.

Long awaited updates on the 2005 season...

Well, the rumors have been flying with no relief in sight from this long neglected website. Finally we have some updates available on the many projects underway for the velodrome this year. Thank you for your patience during this period of unanswered questions!

Track Resurfacing

The upcoming Pacific Rim Sports Summit has afforded us a fabulous opportunity to get the track re-surfaced. This has been on our wishlist for years - but the price tag has kept it out of our grasp until now. Now underway, the effort will include grinding out the bumps in turns 1 and 2, repairing the joints throughout the track, repairing the apron/track interface, cleaning and prepping the entire surface, applying a cementicious coating on the entire surface, and repainting all lines and logos. During the repair process the facility will be CLOSED TO USE. Please respect this closure so that we don't incur problems or further delays. We realize this will be an inconvenience to many, but the upside of having this work done is huge. We anticipate finishing sometime between mid-May and early June. Classes will be re-scheduled as necessary.

MVA Track Bike Fleet Replacement / Sales

Another long simmering dream of ours is also being realized this spring - replacing our fleet of class & loaner bikes! Raleigh America has partnered with the MVA and is helping us secure 35 brand new track bikes to use for classes and new riders. SRAM has also made a generous contribution to the project. The last piece of the puzzle needed to make this happen is for us to clear out all our old bikes. Some of these have been around for a while - but others are only one or two years old. They will all be up for sale in the coming weeks. To get your name on the list to be notified when details are available, email Tye Howell.

2005 Track Classes Update

We have a schedule of classes up - but will probably have to re-schedule several classes. Registration will be disabled temporarily while we work on re-scheduling. After that is sorted out we'll be ready for a great season of classes on brand new Raleigh bikes!

2005 Racing Season Update

As you can imagine, our plans for the season openers of our racing series is somewhat in limbo due to the re-surfacing project. If all goes well we will begin our Monday Night series on May 16th, Wednesday Night on May 18th, and the Group Health Friday Night Track Racing series on May 20th.

Pacific Rim Sports Summit

The big event of the season will definitely be the Pacific Rim Sports Summit to be held at the velodrome from June 10th-12th. We are currently working with the organizing committee and with USA Cycling to determine the schedule as well as our needs for volunteers and support. More details will follow as we get these things nailed down. In the meantime, feel free to peruse the Pacific Rim Sports Summit site for more information about this major international event. The Road to Beijing starts at the Group Health Velodrome this summer!

Volunteers needed

As many of our members know, the Marymoor Velodrome Association functions only through the efforts of our volunteer workforce.  We are currently in need of additional volunteers to help run many existing and developing programs.  Among other things, we have immediate needs for data entry help, page design, and all aspects of running our racing and training events. E-mail Harley Sheffield if you can contribute.

Announcing the Group Health Velodrome!

We are very proud to announce a new cycling partnership between Group Health Cooperative and King County Parks. The recently signed agreement includes naming rights for the velodrome and title sponsorship of our Friday Night Racing series for at least the next three years. It's a great investment in our cycling community and a re-affirmation of the value of our velodrome as a regional asset. Thank you to all involved in this effort - and a huge thank you to Group Health! For all the details, see the press releases at Group Health Cooperative and King County Parks.

Track Classes now open for registration!
